The Overture is a 2004 Thai tragic-nostalgia music-drama film that tells the fictionalised account based on the life story of Thai palace musician Luang Pradit Phairoh. Set in the late 19th century to the 1940s, the film follows the life of a Thai classical musician. Directed by Itthisoontorn Vichailak and produced by Nonzee Nimibutr and Chatrichalerm Yukol, the film received several awards in Thailand and was the country's official selection for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It also played a significant role in reviving the popularity of piphat, Thai classical music. A musical play adaptation of the film was made in 2015.
